Mophie Credit Card Reader For Iphone
posted 02 Jan 2010 at 04:17 PMMophie, the company popular for it's iPhone cases and battery packs, has unveiled their new credit card reader for the iPhone. The reader has been cleverly combined into an iPhone case, creating a solution that's possibly more appealing than Square's jack attachment.
The reader will come with an app that will make the whole system easy to use on your iPhone.
No specific details about name or price have been revealed, but according to Mophie the reader will make an appearance at CES next week. Hopefully we get more juicy details then.
Should also be interesting to see how Apple reacts to these card readers and whether their apps will be accepted, considering they could possibly also be used for fraud purposes.
Worm Attacks Jailbroken Iphones
posted 10 Nov 2009 at 01:37 AMA worm designed to attack users with jailbroken iPhones, has been discovered in Australia. First of it's kind, the worm changes a user's background to a pic of 80s singer Rick Astley with the message "ikee is never going to give you up". In case you have never used YouTube, this is known as Rickrolling.
The worm is not harmful, but does show the vulnerability of jailbroken iPhones. Ashley Towns, the hacker who created the worm, says it only targets people that have SSH (a program that allows users to connect directly to the iPhone's file system) installed and have not changed the default password.
Towns says that he created the virus to make people more aware of security. The code for the worm has been released and could create a whole bunch of other attacks. Just a heads up for those of you with jailbroken iPhones.
Eliminate: No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
posted 07 Nov 2009 at 01:48 AMIf you haven't already downloaded Eliminate yet, definitely go get it. It's the first proper First Person Shooter to come to the iPhone and iPod Touch and it's free.
We were surprised at how well Eliminate was produced, it has a very console look to it. Quite impressive for the iPhone to be able to play death matches online with 3 other players. We were quite amazed and have been playing it since we downloaded it. It's an awesome game.
Apart from being a great FPS on the iPhone, Eliminate has been causing much controversy with it's in app purchase system. As you play the game your energy cells deplete, then comes the ugly question, "do I buy more energy or wait four hours for the recharge?"
At the moment the cells are priced at 20 cells for $0.99, 210 for $7.99, and 1350 for $39.99. The 20 cells would last you about 15 minutes. Not really value for money is it?
I would say a change to this system would be ideal. Even if they were to charge $10 for this game, people would pay it. But expecting people to fork out money like a coin operated arcade game is not going to work long term.

Doom Classic Now Available On The Iphone
posted 03 Nov 2009 at 09:57 PMId Software, developers of the Doom and Quake series, have released a remake of the original Doom. This is not to be confused with Doom Resurrection which is an app version of Doom 3.
The game offers four episodes: "Shores of Hell," "Knee-deep in the Dead," "Thy Flesh Consumed," and "Inferno." Four player deathmatch over local Wi-Fi is included, unfortunately though, there is no online play. We've tried it and it seems to work well on the iphone.
Review coming soon.
