Mophie Credit Card Reader For Iphone
posted 02 Jan 2010 at 04:17 PMMophie, the company popular for it's iPhone cases and battery packs, has unveiled their new credit card reader for the iPhone. The reader has been cleverly combined into an iPhone case, creating a solution that's possibly more appealing than Square's jack attachment.
The reader will come with an app that will make the whole system easy to use on your iPhone.
No specific details about name or price have been revealed, but according to Mophie the reader will make an appearance at CES next week. Hopefully we get more juicy details then.
Should also be interesting to see how Apple reacts to these card readers and whether their apps will be accepted, considering they could possibly also be used for fraud purposes.
Worm Attacks Jailbroken Iphones
posted 10 Nov 2009 at 01:37 AMA worm designed to attack users with jailbroken iPhones, has been discovered in Australia. First of it's kind, the worm changes a user's background to a pic of 80s singer Rick Astley with the message "ikee is never going to give you up". In case you have never used YouTube, this is known as Rickrolling.
The worm is not harmful, but does show the vulnerability of jailbroken iPhones. Ashley Towns, the hacker who created the worm, says it only targets people that have SSH (a program that allows users to connect directly to the iPhone's file system) installed and have not changed the default password.
Towns says that he created the virus to make people more aware of security. The code for the worm has been released and could create a whole bunch of other attacks. Just a heads up for those of you with jailbroken iPhones.
Eliminate: No Such Thing As A Free Lunch
posted 07 Nov 2009 at 01:48 AMIf you haven't already downloaded Eliminate yet, definitely go get it. It's the first proper First Person Shooter to come to the iPhone and iPod Touch and it's free.
We were surprised at how well Eliminate was produced, it has a very console look to it. Quite impressive for the iPhone to be able to play death matches online with 3 other players. We were quite amazed and have been playing it since we downloaded it. It's an awesome game.
Apart from being a great FPS on the iPhone, Eliminate has been causing much controversy with it's in app purchase system. As you play the game your energy cells deplete, then comes the ugly question, "do I buy more energy or wait four hours for the recharge?"
At the moment the cells are priced at 20 cells for $0.99, 210 for $7.99, and 1350 for $39.99. The 20 cells would last you about 15 minutes. Not really value for money is it?
I would say a change to this system would be ideal. Even if they were to charge $10 for this game, people would pay it. But expecting people to fork out money like a coin operated arcade game is not going to work long term.

Doom Classic Now Available On The Iphone
posted 03 Nov 2009 at 09:57 PMId Software, developers of the Doom and Quake series, have released a remake of the original Doom. This is not to be confused with Doom Resurrection which is an app version of Doom 3.
The game offers four episodes: "Shores of Hell," "Knee-deep in the Dead," "Thy Flesh Consumed," and "Inferno." Four player deathmatch over local Wi-Fi is included, unfortunately though, there is no online play. We've tried it and it seems to work well on the iphone.
Review coming soon.

Windows 7 And Iphone Sync Issues
posted 01 Nov 2009 at 06:11 AMIPhone users all over the net are reporting problems when they try to sync their iPhones on a PC running Windows 7. The problem seems to be limited to PC's with the new Intel P55 chipset, though there have been reports of other chipsets having the same issue.
Reports suggest that in most cases iTunes will recognize the iPhone, but when users try to sync they are met with an error message. This problem seems to be an Intel issue, not an iTunes or Windows issue . Interesting to see how this will affect the new iMacs, since most likely they will be running the Intel P55.
More on this issue coming soon.
Habbo Hotel Coming To The Iphone
posted 30 Oct 2009 at 05:31 PMThe creators of Habbo Hotel, the popular 3D chat world, have mentioned that they were working on an iPhone version. The mobile version of Habbo which is called Mini Friday, has been on the Nokia since 2006 in certain countries. Mini Friday has about a millions registered users. An app like this on the iPhone would get popular very quickly, since it really doesn't have much competition.
Aapo Kyrola one of the founders of Habbo also mentioned how easy it was to work with the iPhone SDK, in comparison to Nokia's Symbian software.
Imagine A 1TB Iphone
posted 22 Oct 2009 at 09:06 AMA team of Indian engineers at the North Carolina State University have found a new way of producing computer chips. The nano chip, which is the size of a fingernail, can store about 1TB of data or about 400,000 songs.
The possibilities this type of technology could mean for the iPhone and the iPod are endless. Imagine a 1TB iPhone, with a better graphics engine that plays games as good as the Xbox 360. Now that's a vision we hope comes true some day. Considering the average console game today is about 9GB, the only way this could be possible on a mobile device, is with a chip such as this.
Command And Conquer Red Alert Coming To The Iphone
posted 21 Oct 2009 at 09:54 PMEA keep themselves busy, they released Fifa 10, Rockband and now on it's way the much loved Command & Conquer: Red Alert.
The game, said to be released this month, features some nifty graphics. From what we have seen, they're about as good as the old PC games.
Red alert will use the iPhone screen's ability to zoom in and out and mulit touch capabilities. The iPhone and iPod touch make the perfect interface for strategy games, should be great.
We are very excited, as always keep an eye out for our review soon.
Apple Approves In App Purchases For Free Apps
posted 16 Oct 2009 at 09:15 AMIn-app purchases were a new feature of OS 3.0, but not until recently was it possible with free apps. Apple has announce to developers the news that free apps will also have this ability.
How this will affect the App Sore is to be seen. What it will most likely mean is free apps will have a pop up offering to upgrade to the paid version. This will definitely be great for developers, as it will take away the whole lite/free version issue, where the app has to have a different App Store page and ratings for each version. Free and paid versions will most likely now be on the same page, with the same link. Users will be able to easily upgrade to the paid version without adding another icon and adding another version of the app to their iPhone.
This raises the question as to whether this will change how Apple will gauge it's top apps, we will keep you updated on the matter.
Iphone Os 3.1.2 Update Now Available
posted 16 Oct 2009 at 08:39 AMOnce again this update is nothing major, just a few bug fixes for a couple of 3.1 issues. These include the video stream crash fix and the lost network bug fix . If you had these problems, update to the new OS to solve them. Hopefully we get something bigger soon. In the meantime were keeping busy playing Cartoon Wars. So addictive!
Google Android Is Forecast To Overtake The Iphone
posted 16 Oct 2009 at 08:21 AMAccording to researchers Google Android is predicted to overtake the iPhone in the mobile market. Forecasts suggest by 2012 Android will be the leader of the industry followed by Nokia, Blackberry, then Apple.
We have to say, these comments are not exactly accurate. For one, who can really know what Apple will do with the iPhone in the next 3 years? Knowing Apple and seeing what they have done with the iPod, in 3 years time the iPhone could be completely different and even better. With the way the iPhone trend is going, Apple could very well be the market leader by then.
Secondly Android is not a phone, Android is a mobile software OS, hence any phone could be an Android phone. Considering many manufacturers(HTC, Motorola, Samsung and Nokia) are adding Android software to their hardware, it's not unlikely that most phones, except the iPhone and possibly Blackberry, will be "Android" phones.
Thirdly, have you actually used Android? It's smart, it's stable and has the usual Google appeal. It gets the job done, but iPhone gets it done with style.
Will Android be the most popular mobile software in 2012, probably. But, with many mobile manufacturers combined. Individually though as a phone, we think Nokia will most likely dominate, followed by the iPhone and then Blackberry.

Appsaurus Adds Apps From Itunes Europe
posted 14 Oct 2009 at 11:23 PMWe have been slaving over time to get this working, which is why the reviews and news have been a bit slow. Our goal is to have apps from every iTunes country and we are getting closer to achieving that. We have added iTunes support for the following European countries:
-Austria
-Belgium
-Switzerland
-Germany
-Denmark
-Spain
-Finland
-France
-Ireland
-Italy
-Netherlands
-Norway
-Sweden
The apps should show the correct app ranking and prices for your country automatically. If you find that the system is picking your country incorrectly please do forward it to us in our feedback section.
We are working on implementing a feature to allow users to pick their own iTunes country in case this happens.
We are also looking for people to help us translate the site into other languages. If you are interested, please contact us at email@appsaurus.com.
Look out for iMusic and iVideos coming soon!
Hope you all enjoy reading apps from your country and in your language.

Adobe Photoshop App Now On The Iphone
posted 10 Oct 2009 at 03:09 AMAll you Photoshop fans who have been waiting for a Photoshop iPhone app, rest assured it's here (sort of). Adobe has release the new Photoshop.com app, which is more of a basic image editor and cropper, than an all out Photoshop app.
The app allows for some handy and very intuitive image manipulation. You can edit, crop, rotate images and play around with some basic PS filters. For those of you on the artsy side, the app also includes the Sketch tool which makes photos look like drawings. Adobe did a great job at making the app accessible, with hand gesture controlling most of menus.
The Photoshop.com app, which is currently only available in the US and Canada, is free and is linked to a users photoshop.com account. The account gives users 2GB storage online at no charge and allows you to share, upload and store photos. Definitely handy when you want to access your pics online.
It's not really the Photoshop app we were hoping for, but nonetheless a great addition to the App Store.
Adobe Flash CS5 Can Create Iphone Apps
posted 06 Oct 2009 at 08:23 AMAdobe recently announced that the upcoming Flash Professional CS5 will be able to build iPhone applications. This is great news for both developers and users.
Developers who have no training in cocoa, the main language used to create iPhone apps, can now create their applications in Flash Actionscript. CS5 will convert the flash file into a file that will work on the iPhone, without much input from the programmer.
What does this mean for users? It means you can expect a lot more iPhone and iPod Touch apps coming to the App Store. Flash games on sites like iamboredr.com, could all be transferred to the iPhone very easily.
Look out for our very own appsaurus apps coming soon.
App Store Reaches 2 Billion App Downloads
posted 02 Oct 2009 at 12:36 PMApple has announced that the App Store has hit 2 billion downloads. Happy birthday App Store! It's unlikely this success will decrease, with more and more developers getting on board to make apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch.
The money making machine makes Apple around $100 million per quarter, with a catalog of over 85,000 apps. Considering the app store has only been going for over a year, these are unbelievable stats.
I say keep it coming, I love the iPhone, I love apps. The more the better.
Fifa 10 Coming To The Iphone
posted 30 Sep 2009 at 08:08 AMThe classic console game makes it's way to the app store, finally! According to sources, the app launch will coincide with the console game release, which is this Friday October 2.
Developers EA didn't cut any corners when it came to gameplay, reportedly Fifa 10 on iPhone and iPod Touch will include many of the features of the console version. Boasting 30 leagues, 570 teams, and 12,620 players, the game should keep you Fifa fans busy for a while.
No price mentioned yet, but considering EA's history it should be around $9.99/£5.99.
Unfortunately Fifa 10 will not feature any online play, only Wi-Fi multiplayer. Hopefully EA adds this as an update in the future. Keep an eye out for our review as soon as we get our hands on it!
Orange Will Offer The IPhone In The UK
posted 28 Sep 2009 at 09:14 PMUp until now O2 has had exclusive rights to the iPhone in the UK, a privilege they have enjoyed for the last 2 years. There were reports that Orange wanted to join the party, which were confirmed on Monday to be true.
Hopefully this will allow for a bit of competition and possibly better reception.
Orange did not advise a specific date, only that it would be "later this year". Pricing or tariffs were also not mentioned, though according to experts will be similar to O2.
This leaves the question as to whether Apple will give others rights to the iPhone in the USA, where AT&T is holding on tightly. Countries like Australia, Sweden, France all have multiple carriers for the iPhone.
UPDATE: According to sources at telegraph.co.uk Vodafone will also be selling the iPhone. That was quick, it seems many are wanting to jump on the Apple bandwagon with reports of Virgin also wanting rights to sell the Jesus phone. This is awesome news for UK iPhone buyers as most likely this will cause a decrease in iPhone prices, especially if there is a price war.
Tomtom Car Kit Price Revealed
posted 25 Sep 2009 at 11:17 PMTomTom announced yesterday the price for the iPhone car kit would be EUR 99.99 or USD 119.95. Many are complaining this is too high a price to pay, considering the app costs around $99. That would have us paying around $210 for a GPS, which might make a few people reluctant when you can get a standalone GPS for less than that.
Any discounts for us bargain hunters TomTom?
MMS Works About Time
posted 25 Sep 2009 at 02:07 PMAfter the whole iPhone world has had MMS since June 17th, AT&T finally get themselves into the game.
When Apple announced 3.0 would have MMS many were excited not knowing AT&T, the main provider of the iPhones in the US, would not provide it.
Today AT&T finally announced they would include the feature with a network update and reboot via iTunes. According to them they wanted to be ready for the stress iPhone users would put on the network. Users should expect possible delays at first due to the number of people messaging.
UPDATE: So far no serious issues reported. One thing to note is the update requires you to be on 3.1.
